Smart Supplements

About Smart Supplements

You walked into a smartshop for one herb and walked out with a list of questions. What is in this? Why are there three versions? Is the expensive one actually different? Smart Supplements exists for that moment: the browse that turns into research.

What Smart Supplements is

We're an English-language publication for readers in the Netherlands and the wider EU who are curious about smartshop products and the supplements around them. Think of it as a reference library with a blog attached. The library explains what an ingredient is, what the research does and doesn't show, and how products differ in form and label. The blog follows meaningful new research, releases and updates.

We lead with smartshop exploration: herbs, psilocybin truffles and microdosing, functional mushrooms and the other things you find on those shelves. Close behind are focus, gaming and nootropic products. Sleep is a dedicated area. Fitness, running and longevity are part of the picture too, but we keep them selective rather than trying to be a general nutrition site.

Why "smart"?

It means two things, and we like that it does.

The first is making an informed decision: knowing what a product is meant to do, what is actually supported for that purpose, and what the label really says. The second is a nod to the online smartshop world, which is where our curiosity started.

Who it's for

Our starting audience is people aged roughly 18 to 40 who are into gaming, technology, focused work and optimising their routines, and who are curious about these products. That's where we aim the writing, not a rule about who should read it. If you're newer to an ingredient, we'll explain the terms without talking down to you.

How it's made

Smart Supplements is also an experiment in how a modern publication can be put together. The research and drafting are AI-assisted, and automated review passes check drafts against their sources. AI agents with editorial access can approve and publish pages within the scope the owner of Smart Supplements has authorised, and the owner steers that scope and the instructions. Claim audits can follow publication. No clinician or outside expert reviews our pages. The editorial approach and corrections page has the detail, and the commercial relationships and disclosures page explains how we handle links to shops.

Where to start

If you're new, begin with Smart Supplements 101. Before you buy anything, how to read supplement labels pays for itself. How we choose the products we mention is explained on our how products are selected page.
